Toby Abbs was born in West London in 1973 and his dad’s love of surfing eventually moved the family from Fulham to Newquay in Cornwall. Toby spent his childhood surfing as often as possible and his parent’s surfing business afforded many surfing adventures around the world. At the age of 12 Toby attended Kahuku Elementary school on the North shore of Oahu (Hawaii) for a period of three months in 1986.

Frequent trips back to his town of birth as an adult would eventually lead Toby to living back in West London and then moving onto the outskirts of London to Surrey. After many years the rat race had taken its toll and four years ago whilst settling back in Newquay Toby met his partner, Dawn. They have been inseparable ever since.

Toby bought a second-hand Canon camera in 2014 and instantly fell in love with photography. Toby spent time as a photojournalist and then after a three-year break, upon his return he eventually discovered his niche for macro based photography.

In May of 2006 Toby was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and has spent the latter years of his life raising awareness as well as self-managing his mental health condition.
